Happy Birthday Dr. Nay. Only clothes get old we are seasoned women in our late 50s.
Thanks Iris!
Absolutely! I refuse to say that I am “old,” like my great grandma Addie used to say. I agree that we are “seasoned” women with character!
Happy Birthday Dr. Nay,
Yes, I too have learned some truth about age! I find myself having a different point of view than my younger self. I have grown in confidence. I am content with doing things all by myself. As I get closer to retirement there is a different version of me evolving. In my new chapter, I want travel solo across this country in my car towing a teardrop RV pulled behind it. Probably most would never dream I’d do such a thing. My daughter is terrified of the thought! In my daily journaling, I will document all plans to see this goal to fruition. I figured time is too short now. To live my life to its fullest is the gift I bestowe on myself. The refinement of my adventurous spirit is what I see. So, to America’s national parks, here I come!
Mikka
Hi Mikka,
It is amazing how we can witness and feel ourselves changing into our new selves! Yes, life is a precious gift of true blessings!
Please let me know when you are heading toward the Grand Canyon. I always wanted to RV there!
Birthday wishes are greatly appreciated!
Happy 56th Birthday – My Sista!
I feel age has snuck on me and I just don’t know where the time has gone. But what I know for sure is, i don’t have time to waste trying to figure where the time went or be critical of myself , thinking of what was. What ever time I am blessed to have. I want to smile, holding on to my treasure chest of beautiful memories, enjoy my family, friends, health, energy and just simply live!
I’m with you Sistah Sakeena!! No time to waste! It’s time to live life to the fullest!
Thanks for the Happy Birthday!
Hey Dr. Nay!
I love this poem! I think many of us have had struggles with embracing, the changes that some times come along with it, and managing societal influence on what is deemed “beautiful” or “acceptable”. It can be easy to fall into that trap of being critical with self when these changes happen and I know that I can relate to this… especially after turning 35 lol. Aging gracefully isn’t about trying to look like you were in your 20’s — it’s about living your best life and having the physical and mental health to enjoy it. Like a bottle of wine, you can get better with age with the right care and I love this message about embracing that. Happy early birthday and you are rocking that 56! Much love!
Hi Kimberly,
Yes, we must not be self-critical of who we are now or compete with who we once were. We must appreciate our growth and refinement as mature women.
Thanks for the birthday wishes!!
